SHORE TOUR KOTOR-PERAST WITH MH TRAVEL agency
MH Travel created a shore tour KOTOR-PERAST for the cruise guests who have only a few hours to explore Kotor and Perast, which are the UNESCO World Heritage. Kotor with its more than two millennia impressive history is located in the incredibly beautiful Bay of Boka as one the most popular tourist destination in the world. In case the cruise ship stays in Kotor longer than 3 hours we recommend shore tour KOTOR-BUDVA-PERAST where guests will visit the three most popular cities on the Montenegrin coast.
The old town of Kotor is located hidden in Kotor Bay like at the end of the blind street surrounded by two mountains Lovcen and Vrmac, which give to it exceptional uniqueness. Everyone who visits Kotor is left breathless due to the beauty and atmosphere of this city. The old town of Kotor is small but is packed with picturesque squares, old palaces, drinking fountains, churches, secret gates and passages, and numerous symbols and decorations on almost every wall in the town, which was left by its citizens through centuries.
Only 10 km far away from the old town of Kotor, in the middle of the Bay of Kotor, is the town of Perast with its two islands St. George and Lady of the Rock, with small churches on them. The handmade island Lady of the Rock represents power and trust in God who gave hope and strength to generations of sailors, navigators, and captains who raised from Perast and Kotor and who guarded the Bay of Kotor against the enemies.
On our tour, we will visit the Perast in the middle of Kotor Bay, and then explore Kotor and its city walls. Guests will have a lovely visit to both places by guided tour in 3 hours and then they will have free time for shopping or relaxing in the numerous restaurants and cafes in the old town of Kotor, or they can go back to the port, which is nearby to the old town. Welcome:)
WHEN AND WHERE WILL WE START?
The tour starts from the port of Kotor after guests pass border control. Departure time depends on the docking time of the cruise ship. Guests just need to inform us of which cruise ship they will come and the tour will start according to guests' arrival time in the port of Kotor.
WHERE WE WILL GO?
We will go to Perast, Lady of the Rock, and the old town of Kotor
PERAST
After we start our tour we will go first to Perast, which is a part of the municipality of Kotor and has been protected by UNESCO since 1979. Perast is a small place with one main street by the sea and 2 small islands in front with the churches on them. The island's names are St George and Our Lady of the Rocks, which is why Perast is mostly known in the tourist world. When we arrive we will firstly visit the islands and then take a walk around the town.
Island St. George is a natural rocky islet with the Benedictine abbey from the 12th of century, the graveyard with the cypresses, and St. George church from the 17th of century. The islet is closed for the public except in some rare events, while the next islet Our Lady of the Rocks islet is open for the visitors. We'll take a boat ride to get to the island, where guests will have 45 minutes of sightseeing. The small baroque church from the 17th century with a bronze roof painted in light blue it is just as attractive on the outside as it is on the inside.
The interior of the church is lovely decorated with paintings made by the talented local painter Tripo Kokolja where the ceiling is the most fascinating. Guests can also see numerous small silver plates with reliefs on them exhibit on the church's walls. These were consecration-gifts to Our Lady of the Rock, for the protection of life, health, and family of believing people. The church has a small museum with a collection of stone inscriptions from the Roman era, parts of ships and navigation instruments, utensils, swords, clocks, weapons, old furniture, handicrafts up to modern paintings.
After our visit to the Lady of the Rock, we will go back to Perast where we will explore its main attractions: St. Nicholas church with its belfry, the town square, the Maritime Museum, as well as many traditional palaces and churches built in the 16th and 17th century that still keep authentic looks.
Although Perast is the tourist center of Boka Kotorska, it still preserves the dignity of a peaceful town in which the spirit of past times truly feels. Spared from modern buildings, cozy-luxury shops, fast food restaurants, souvenir shops, and everything else that accompanies modern life and tourism, Perast looks like the time stopped into it. The traffic in the city is closed in the summer months so tourists can safely walk around and sightseeing the town.
KOTOR
After visiting Perast we will go to the old town of Kotor where guests will have a one-hour city tour and get information about the town's rich history and its squares, streets, churches, historical buildings, and gates like as Square of Arms, Bizanti Palace, Beskuca Palace, Pima Palace, St Tryphon Cathedral, Maritime Museum, St Nicholas Church, Blessed Osanna Church, the Sea Gate, and the North Gate. Kotor old town has been on the list of UNESCO World Heritage since 1979 mostly thanks to its impressive city walls.
St. Giovanni is the name of the city walls and fortification, built above the old town of Kotor on the rocky slopes of the Lovcen mountain from the 9th to the 19th of century. To reach the top guests need to climb almost 1500 steps, (45 minutes of intense climbing) which is not easy during the summer heat. Most guests climb up to the small chapel of St. Giovanni where they can take impressively beautiful photos of the Kotor panorama.
