KOTOR & PERAST (cable car) TOUR with mh travel
DAILY EXCURSIONIN MONTENEGRO...DEPARTURE FROM BUDVA...HIGHLIGHTS: CABLE CAR FROM KOTOR TO MT.LOVCEN, THE OLD TOWN OF KOTOR, AND BOAT RIDE TO ISLAND OUR LADY OF THE ROCKS, AND PERAST...DURATION: 9 hours...TICKET PRICE€60.00
Montenegro Hostel Travel Agency has designed the tour for guests who wish to visit Kotor and Perast, both of which have been listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites since 1979. The tour includes a visit to Mt. Lovcen via cable car, providing a spectacular view of Boka Bay. Kotor, with its rich history spanning over two millennia and its stunning location, is very high on the world tourist map. It represents a long historical line of the Boka people and as the crown of the testimony of past centuries are impressive city walls that frame the old town of Kotor. Only 10 km far away, in the middle of the Bay of Kotor, lies the small town of Perast with its two islets St. George and Lady of the Rock, with small churches on them. The handmade islet Lady of the Rock symbolically represents power and trust in God who gave hope and strength to generations of sailors, navigators, and captains who were raised in Perast and Kotor.
Experience the unforgettable journey consisting of three parts. Begin with a visit to the Old Town of Kotor, followed by a scenic boat ride from Perast to the islet Lady of the Rock. Conclude with a breathtaking cable car ascent to Mt Lovcen. This 11-hour tour offers abundant time to immerse yourself in the pure beauty of each destination. Welcome:)
WHEN AND WHERE WILL WE START?
The tour departs from Budva at 8:00 in the morning, which is the standard time for all our trips. The departure point in Budva is from the ECO petrol gas station next to the hotel Slovenska Plaža.
NOTE:The temperature in the summer season can be very high, above 40 degrees, so pay attention to protect your body with adequate clothes, skin with sun cream, and head with a hat. Always have enough water.
After picking up the guests in Budva, we will drive 25 km to go to the Old Town of Kotor. Guests will have a short break for 15 minutes, and then a one-hour city tour where they will get information about the town's rich history and its squares, streets, churches, historical buildings, city walls, and gates. The tour has stops in those locations: Square of Arms, Bizanti Palace, Pima Palace, St Tryphon Cathedral, Maritime Museum, St Nicholas Church, Blessed Osanna Church, the Sea Gate, and the North Gate.
St. Giovanni is the name of the city walls and fortification, built above the old town of Kotor on the rocky slopes of the Lovcen mountain from the 9th to the 19th of century. To reach the top guests need to climb almost 1500 steps, (45 minutes of intense climbing) which is not easy during the summer heat. Most guests climb up to the small chapel of St. Giovanni where they can take impressively beautiful photos of the Kotor panorama.
After the city tour, guests will head to the Port of Kotor, located next to the Sea Gate, and board speedboats at 11:45. The schedule might seem tight, but after a 90-minute boat tour, guests will return to the old town of Kotor around 13:30. Following that, there will be a 90-minute free time break for lunch, shopping, or visiting the city walls (as guests wish).
The speed boats start at noon, and this is the best way to the only way to avoid traffic jams, especially in the summer. This part of the tour is not guided.
PERAST
A relaxing speed boat ride to Perast takes 15 minutes. After docking the boat guests will have a 30-minute break for a walk around the town, and explore its main attractions: St. Nicholas church with its belfry, the town square, the Maritime Museum, and see traditional palaces and churches built in the 16th and 17th century that still keep authentic looks. Perast is very small, with one waterfront street, and preserves the dignity of a peaceful town in which the spirit of past times truly feels.
Spared from modern buildings, cozy luxury shops, fast food restaurants, souvenir shops, and everything else that accompanies modern life and tourism, Perast looks like time stopped centuries ago. The traffic in the city is closed in the summer months so tourists can safely walk around and sightseeing in the town. The main attractions here are two small islets with churches on them. Their names are St George and Our Lady of the Rocks, which we will visit next.
Island St. George is a natural rocky islet with the Benedictine abbey from the 16th century, a graveyard with cypresses. The islet is closed to the public except for some rare events, while the next islet Our Lady of the Rocks islet is open to visitors. The small baroque church from the 17th century with a bronze roof painted in light blue is just as attractive on the outside as it is on the inside. We will stop to visit this unique island and church for 30 minutes.
The interior of the church is nicely decorated with paintings made by the talented local painter Tripo Kokolja. There are numerous small silver plates with reliefs on the exhibit on the church's walls. These were consecration gifts to Our Lady of the Rock, for the protection of life, health, and family of believing people. The church has a small museum with a collection of stone inscriptions from the Roman era, parts of ships and navigation instruments, utensils, swords, clocks, weapons, old furniture, handicrafts to modern paintings.
After visiting Lady of the Rocks, guests will be riding back to the old town of Kotor where they will have free time of 90 minutes. It will be the perfect time for lunch in some of the numerous fish restaurants in the town.
CABLE CAR FROM KOTOR TO MT.LOVCEN
The last part of the tour is the most attractive. We will start from Kotor at 15:00, and after a 10-minute drive, we will be at the locality Dub where is a cable car entrance. The route leads to the locality of Kuk on the plateau of the Lovćen mountain, at 1,348 meters above sea level. The height difference between the starting and ending stations will be 1316 meters. The cable car is about 4 km long with a capacity of 1,000 passengers per hour and is served by 48 gondolas. Travel time from Dub station to Kuk station is 11 minutes.
This part of the tour is not obligatory. Guests can take a cable car ride if they wish. Those who are not interested in taking the ride can enjoy an excellent coffee bar and pastry shop on the terrace of the terminal building. The ride in both directions and with a photo stop at the top of the mountain takes approximately 45 minutes
Sometimes clouds make the view not crystal clear on the top, but during the ride, the view of the Bay will be visible, especially in the summer. After the cable car ride, guests will be driven back to Budva, where we should arrive by 17:00
