Tara Canyon or Tara Gorge is 80 km long with a deepest point of 1300 meters, which makes it the deepest canyon in Europe. The river is formed as the confluence of two rivers, Opasnica and Veruša, with a total flow of 144 km. At the end of its course, the Tara River flows with the Piva River into the Drina River, which is the natural border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. The birth of the river Drina takes place in the small village of Sćepan Polje (Scepan Field), which is located in the Plužine Municipality in the northwest of Montenegro. Sćepan Polje is the border crossing between Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. At this very place, we will be starting our rafting. Our route is Nikšić-Plužine-Šćepan Polje, and our rafting starts from Brštanovica Luka (Brstanovica Port) and finishes in Šćepan Polje village at the place where rivers Tara and Piva confluence Drina. We organize an 18 km-long rafting with 21 bound cascades and rapids.
The Tara River is drinkable all the way, and that’s going to give you unforgettable moments and quite a fantastic feeling during rafting. On our way to Sćepan Polje, we will pass the amazingly beautiful nature of Piva Lake and Piva Canyon with its 56 tunnels, and the Mratinje Dam, one of the highest in Europe. On our way back, we will stop in Piva Monastery from the 16th century, the most famous one in this part of Montenegro. WHEN AND WHERE WILL WE START?
The tour departs from Kotor at 7:30 in the morning. After a maximum of 45 minutes of driving, we will arrive in Budva, where we will pick up guests. We will arrive in Podgorica 60 minutes later, picking up the guests and continuing our journey. If guests take the private tour, we will pick them up from their accommodations. If we do not have guests from Podgorica on the rafting, we will take another route closer to Kotor via Grahovo Field and the village of Villusi, which is a 30-minute shorter route in one way.
The departure point in Kotor is from the ECO petrol gas station next to the main bus station. The departure point in Budva is from the ECO petrol gas station next to the hotel Slovenska Plaža The departure point in Podgorica is from the INA petrol station next to the entrance of the Big Fashion Shopping Mall.
NOTE: The temperature in the summer season can be very high, above 35 degrees, so pay attention to protect your body with adequate clothes, skin with sun cream, and head with a hat. Always have enough water.
WHERE WILL WE GO?
We will go to Piva Lake, Piva Canyon, Tara rafting starting point at Scepan Polje, and Piva Monastery
PIVA CANYON
After we start and pick up the guests, we will go directly to the city of Niksic, where we will turn to the small town of Plužine. On our way, we will see Krupac Lake near Niksic, then we will pass part of Durmitor enjoying the view of the mountains. From Plužine, the landscape changes dramatically where Piva Lake begins with its canyon.
We will cross Piva Bridge enter the canyon, and drive through 56 small rocky tunnels. 11 km before our final destination, we will pass 220 meters high dam of Mratinje and the most attractive Mratinje bridge that looks like it levitates above the canyon. It is a suspension bridge composed of two girders divided in the middle by an expansion joint.
RAFTING
We need to be in Šćepan Polje around 11:00 am when we will have breakfast and take the rafting equipment: waterproof suits, shoes, life jackets, and helmets. Guests will have cabins to change their clothes and get waterproof bags to put in their valuables (cameras, money, passports, etc). Guests should wear swimsuits under waterproof suits. After getting dressed and taking the equipment, guests will be transferred by minivans 20 km north to the starting point of Brštanovica Luka.
Guests will go down to the river where they will be introduced by their skipper and get basic instructions on how to sit on the boat, how to row, and how to hold a paddle. The part of the river Tara where we will have rafting is the natural border between Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. On the left side of the river is Montenegro with untouched nature, while on the Bosnian and Herzegovina side (the right one), there are numerous rest areas with barbecues, campsites, and even open-air bars.

The rafting boats from both countries are mixed on the river. Commonly, our guests have a little break on the Bosnian side, especially when they want to take a photo near the waterfalls. Groups of tourists from Montenegro go rafting in a few hours, while groups of tourists from Bosnia and Herzegovina go rafting in 2 days, sometimes they need a week because they make stops all the time:) Anyway, the party zone is on the Bosnian side:) It is a lot of fun here mostly in the summer when the river is slower and when even the kids can be on the rafting boats.
The grade of rapids in the very high season is marked 2, sometimes grade 3 (depending on the summer and the amount of rain). In the summer, rafting lasts almost 3 hours, and the white water is only on a few short parts of the river, which allows guests can swim in the river, take photos, and enjoy nature.
But, if you prefer adrenaline rafting, then you should take it in April and May when the grade of rapids is marked 4 and when 18 km of rafting lasts 45 minutes. In the June grade of rapids is marked 3. In the springtime, the temperature of the water is from 4 to 8 degrees, and in the summer it is 12 degrees.
We will finish the rafting close to the restaurant where the traditional lunch will be waiting for us. The first course will be soup, and the second meal will be roasted lamb, veal, or fish with potatoes, bread, and salad.
PIVA MONASTERY
After lunch, we will get back by the same route via Pivsko Lake through the tunnels. We will stop at the Orthodox Monastery of Piva, one of the most significant monastery complexes in Montenegro. This monastery was originally located at the source of the Piva River, but due to the formation of an artificial lake for the needs of the hydroelectric power plant “Piva”, it was moved stone by stone to the present location in the village of Sinjac. It is among the few large buildings in the world, of large dimensions, that were transferred to another place!
The relocation of the Monastery lasted 13 years, as long as the construction of the monastery in the 16th century. One can see an impressive iconostasis with frescoes from the 17th century. After visiting the monastery, we return via Nikšić to Podgorica, Budva, and Kotor.
TOUR CONDITIONS
Shared tour costs €100 per person (departure from Podgorica), €110 per person (departure from Budva), and €120 per person (departure from Kotor)for a minimum group of 4 guests. The tour is organized by middle-class air-conditioned cars or minivans. The price of the private tour is per car, not per person. The maximum number of guests in the car is 4.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
INTRODUCTION Montenegro Hostel Travel Agency (hereinafter called 'the Agency'), guarantees the authenticity of the displayed visual and written data related to the accommodation unit characteristics in its offer available at www.montenegrohostel.com as well as the authenticity of the conditions of the same offer. By taking one or more offers of the Agency the client enters a legal relationship with Montenegro Hostel Travel and confirms that he/she accepts the General Terms And Conditions of Accommodation Reservation Service (hereinafter called 'General Conditions'), which are presented here. All the details stated in the offer represent the legal obligation of the client as well as the Agency. The General Conditions represent the basis for the settlement of any possible dispute that may arise between the client and the Agency. The client is advised to read the General Conditions carefully before any advance payment.
1. BOOKING AND PAYMENT
Purchasing tickets for tours is possible electronically by completing the online form on our site. Reservations are only possible by paying the entire amount on our website before departure. After we receive the entire amount we will send you the confirmation of reservation and the voucher that consists of the details of the relevant arrangements (details of the host, guest details, date of arrival and departure, and also other services that the guest has paid). The payment can be made by credit card (Visa, Master...), (the agency bears the bank charges). By making the payment of the reservation the client certifies that he/she is completely familiarized with all the details and conditions under which the reservation of the accommodation service is provided. By making the payment all the conditions and terms specified in this contract become a legal obligation for both the client and the Agency.
2. CHANGES AND CANCELLATIONS BY CLIENT
The client is entitled to a change of a confirmed reservation only if the change is accepted by the service provider. The changes may include booked transfer, tour, excursion or activity, number of persons, their age, and type of basic or extra services booked. The request for a change of the reservation must be submitted in a written form by e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
If the client wants to cancel the reservation, the client must submit the request in written form by e-mail.
Online purchased tour tickets are possible to cancel free of charge up to 3 days before departure, only in the case that the tour is still not confirmed and the money funds are only authorized, not fully charged.
If the minimum group is reached after the booking, when the customer automatically gets the online ticket and the ticket is fully charged, then the cancelation is not 100% free of charge. The cancelation fee costs 10% of the card ticket and 90% of the ticket amount will be returned to the customer's card. This cancelation is possible to do any time from the moment of booking up to 3 days before departure.
For a cancellation occurring from 3 to 0 days before the start of using the reserved service, MH Travel charges 100% of the total price of the tour ticket booked.
3. AGENCY’S OBLIGATIONS
The Agency is responsible for the transportation services and selection of the service providers and is concerned about the rights and interests of the client following good tourism practices. The Agency is responsible for ensuring that the client receives all the services he/she has booked and is therefore liable to the client for a possible non-provision of the services or a part of the services the client paid for. The Agency is not responsible if the non-provision of the service is due to a case of force majeure in the client's country or in the country where the service is to be provided (war, riots, strikes, terrorist attacks, natural disasters, official authority interventions, etc.). The Agency has the right to cancel the tour in the case of unpredictable situations, that cannot be controlled by an agency (earthquakes, floods, closing borders, etc). In that case, the Agency will refund the full amount of the transfer tickets to the guests.
Every tour has to have a minimum number of passengers (10 in total) to be organized. The agency charges booking amounts for transfers, tours, and activities ONLY after the minimum number of passengers is reached and the transfer, tour, or activity is confirmed by e-mail.
The Agency has the right to cancel transfer, tour, and activity up to 720 minutes (12 hours) before departure if the minimum of participants is not reached.
Cancellation by the Agency is free of charge.
4. CLIENT’S OBLIGATIONS
The clients are under obligation to possess valid travel documents. The costs of loss of these documents are borne by the client. The client needs to check whether he/she needs a visa to enter Montenegro or transit countries. The Agency cannot provide the service of obtaining a visa for the client and reserves the right to keep the amount paid for the transfer if the client cannot enter Montenegro because the necessary documents were not obtained by the client.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it. of all the relevant facts that can affect the client's presence at the reserved transfer, tour, excursion, or activity (e.g. allergies and illness of the client, physical disability of the client, coming by vehicle, special diet conditions, and extra luggage).
5. TRAVEL INSURANCE The cost of the trip does not include the travel insurance 'package': insurance against accidents and illnesses that may occur during the trip, damage or loss of luggage, or voluntary health insurance. When confirming the reservation online, the Traveler has to accept these General Terms and Conditions by selecting a payment method and completing the reservation confirmation process. The same applies to reservations confirmed and completed via e-mail. Should the Traveler request additional insurance, arrangements can be made directly with the insurance company or at MH Travel itself wherein the Agency acts only as a mediator.
6. COMPLAINS The client reserves the right to complain in case of any incorrect photographs and information published on the site. The client is not entitled to complain about any other grounds, including bad weather conditions, traffic jams, or any other similar situation or event that may cause the client's dissatisfaction and is not to the quality of the reserved transfer service. Any justified complaint about deficiencies will be resolved on the spot. If the service provider is not able to resolve the reported deficiencies, and the Agency cannot propose any alternative transfer/shuttle, the client will get a full refund of the amount paid.
7. ARBITRATION If the guest is not satisfied with the solution offered by the agency he/she has a right to take the issue to the court jurisdiction of Podgorica.
8. NOTICE By making the advance payment or paying the entire arrangement amount the guest accepts these general terms and conditions.
