FOOD EXPERIENCE TOUR (ALBANIA) WITH MH TRAVEL
MH Travel Agency is very proud to offer a food experience tour in the world-famous restaurant "Mrizi i Zanave" in Albania. After several years of looking and searching the best restaurant for food experience tour in Montenegro and neighboring countries, we found Mrizi i Zanave as the best possible food experience in the region and among all of the restaurants it is absolutely the winner. The popularity of this place started almost immediately after the restaurant has been opened in 2010. The main concept of the owners Altin and Anton Prenga is to use the best quality ingredients, prepare only local food at a fair price, which made their restaurant the best in Albania and one of the best on Balkans.
Brothers Altin and Anton Prenga are chefs, who left Albania early 90's and spent almost 10 years in Italia working in the restaurants, where they got the knowledge and skills and they were able to open their own restaurant.
They came back to their family house in the village named Fiste and they organized a farm on almost 3 hectares with cows, ducks, goats, horses, turkeys, chicken, sheep as well as vineyards, olive groves, greenhouses, gardens, etc.
Today, Mrizi i Zanave is complex which consists of: a restaurant with 200 seats, lovely guesthouse with several suite rooms, and modern production of their: cheese, wine, juices, jams, sauces, and smoked ham.
But, this is not enough. More than 400 families and small farmers in region Puke supply Mrizi i Zanave every day with 1000 liters of goat and cow milk, fresh meat and wild treasures: blackberry, wild pomegranate, mushrooms, blueberry, herbs, etc. All the meals are prepared only using seasonal vegetables and fruits. This is not the place with a-la-cart offers. The restaurant has daily menu which consists of around 30 types of traditional Albanian meals. Almost 50% of the meals are vegetarian and vegan. Some meals will be served as Albanian classic, but some will have a "wow" effect and will be served in some very original way which makes the lunch interesting and attractive. The best comes in the end when the average bill per person costs up to 15 euro, including domestic vine during the lunch and unlimited bottles of freshwater.
Making a reservation is sometimes "mission impossible" because the restaurant is very often fully booked, so you can take our tour as an excellent option and have lunch there.
At the beginning we will start to go there once per week, every Wednesday at lunchtime. In the very case that the customer wants to go there some other day (birthdays, engagements, anniversaries, celebrations, or any other private reason) we can organize it only on demand.
We start from Kotor, taking guests from Budva and then we drive to Podgorica where we will pick up guests at 10:00 am.
In the case that we don't have any guests from Podgorica, we will go directly to the border crossing Sukobin, near the city of Ulcinj.
After we pass the border crossing we will go straight to village Fiste, and arrive there between noon and 13:00 depending on the time spent on the border crossing. The lunch starts a few minutes after our arrival, with the starter: salad, various types of cheeses, grilled vegetables, ham, sausages, pie, bread followed by pasta with blueberries, truffles or mushrooms. The third course will be meat with potatoes, and the last one are several deserts with fruits. The lunch lasts 2 hours.
After lunch we will have half an hour guided visit of the farm where the guests will be able to buy some of their organic products.
We will leave Mrizi i Zanave complex around 16:00 and continue to the city of Shkoder, which is only 20 km away. Our first stop will be Rosafa Castle which was probably founded by Illyrians. Later it was rebuilt several times by Romans, Venetians and Ottomans. The castle ruins consist of 3 courtyards and a few buildings. The oldest still-standing structure on the castle grounds is the St. Stephen's Church, which dates back to 1319. One of the main reasons to visit the castle is its location on a 130 m high hilltop, which offers panoramic views of Shkoder, the Buna and Drini rivers as well as the southern end of Lake Shkodra . Next to the Rozafa castle is located multiple-domed Lead Mosque (Xamia e Plumbit) which dates back to 1773, when it was built in Ottoman style by Memet Pasha Bushati. The name Lead Mosque derives from the material which was used for the roof and the cupolas. In 1948 the mosque was declared a Cultural Monument which probably also saved it from destruction during the communist years. In 1967 the minaret was destroyed by alighting.
The last stop will be the city center of Shkoder and the most popular pedestrian street known as Pjaca (KoleIdromeno St. in the center of Shkodra), full of cafes and shops. That street got the name of KoleIdromeno (1860-1939) who was a famous Albanian sculptor, photographer, architect, and engineer. At the beginning of the street, you will see the Mother Theresa monument (Nene Teresa), which is one of the newest statues in Shkoder. Mother Teresa was a Catholic nun, who was born in neighboring Macedonia to an Albanian family. In 1979 she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. On the left from Mother Teresa monument the large Ebu Beker Mosque, which is the focal point of the local Muslim community, dominates Skhoder's city center. This mosque is also known as Al-Zamil Mosque; it was built in 1995 with funds from Saudi Arabia and Egypt. This mosque has been extensively renovated in 2008. Across the mosque is the statue of Luigj Gurakuqi (1879-1925) who was born in Shkoder. He became a poet and a nationalist. Luigj Gurakuqi was given the titles of Hero i Popullit (Hero of the People) and Meseus i Popullit (Teacher of the People). The university of his hometown Shkoder was named after him.
After our visit to Shkoder, we will be heading back to Podgorica, Budva, and Kotor.
