It scent with the architecture from 18th and 19th century that comes from rich greenery of this small city. Cetinje is the capital of Montenegro and Crnogorsko - primorska Mitropolija. During King Nikola’s reign many embassies were built that gives its today's specific look.
Two of the most representative buildings are the Monasteries of Cetinje and Biljarda. Cetinje Monastery was built in 1701 and even though the Turks destroyed it several times, the people built it up again. Relics of St. Petar of Cetinje, one of the illustrious patrons of Montenegrin history, are kept there. Cetinje Monastery represents the spiritual and political center of Montenegrin people.
For the state purpose Njegos built Biljarda, a building (monastery) that took its name after the pool (billiards) that this exceptional poet, metropolitan, philosopher and statesman liked to play. Cetinje abounds in museums, as well as the Art Academy, parks and from Orlov Krs (Eagle’s Crag) there is a great view on the city and the mountain of Lovcen.
When the capital of Zeta fell under the Turks in 1499, Cetinje sprang up as the region’s new capital, a symbol for all of Montenegro and the Balkan states of freedom, independence.Times were never easy for Cetinje, who suffered a string of attacks and trials over the centuries. However, the local population weathered the storm well and developed a sense of how to live life to its fullest.
Many travelers today will find an abundance of good food and even more impressive architectural structures in Cetinje, including a number of international embassies from the UK, France, Russia, Bulgaria, Italy, Belgium, and all points in between.
Don’t miss Vlashka church, built in 1450 and binded with a very special fence – made from the steel barrels of rifles captured from the enemy! The Zetski Dom theatre represents an impressive white facade against the otherwise rich green lawns that sourroundes it, and also some of the oldest libraries in Montenegro can be found in Cetinje, including the internationally recognized “Library of Cetinje Monastery”, which dates back to the 15th Century.Today Cetinje is an important historical and artistic meeting place and a cultural icon in Montenegro.

The old town lies at the cape of Budva’s spacious bay, while the rest of the flat terrain around it is quickly being filed with houses and apartments gaining ground each year. During the beginning and at the end of the season Budva is very pleasant place. Budva is one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic. The legend holds that was founded by the Theban king Cadmus while the written sources tell us about the Greek colony Buthoa already in 4th c. BC.
The hub of Budva is its Old Town which became too small for its population only in the second half of 20th c. The reconstruction following the 1979 earthquake purged it from several newer buildings and brought back fully its medieval character with narrow zigzag streets and tiny squares.
